Slice of Parmigiano or slice of cheesecake?

While strolling NYC streets yesterday I thought I would share a photo of this iconic building: the Flatiron Building,  named so because it looks like a cast-iron clothes iron! You could also say it looks like a gigantic slice of cheesecake or perhaps a piece of Parmigiano!

The original name was the Fuller Building in tribute to George A. Fuller, an architect widely credited as being the inventor of modern skyscrapers. The architect died 2 years before the building was completed so he lost the opportunity to have a building with his name.

You might wonder why this building is so special, firstly the shape and also the date of its construction, completed in 1902, it was a groundbreaking skyscraper, one of the tallest in Manhattan. The building gives the name to the area: Flatiron district.
